My First Time Using A Styling Gel w/ Curlee Box

*I pay for all of my Curlee Boxes, sometimes at a discounted price. I do receive a payment for the purchases made using my code. My thoughts on the service and products within the boxes are always my own.

So I thought I would use all the products in the January Curlee box to recreate one of my favourite hair styles. Twist outs have become one of my favourite styles, my go to for when I am out and about. In this month's Curlee Box there was a styling gel, I have never used a gel in my twist outs before.  I thought it would be interesting to see how this works for my hair.

Cleanse & Condition

Lotta Body Hydrate Me Moisturising Shampoo

I am familiar with the Lotta Body products, I have only used their styling products and I tried to use the co-wash, but I was left with some flaking. After speaking to someone about co-washes I learnt that it would be best to wash with a shampoo if it’s your first time using a co-wash. Most of the time co-washes are a lot gentler then shampoos.

Moisturises and deeply cleanses the hair, whilst strengthening the hair and preventing breakage. Makes detangling easier and adds a healthy shine to hair.

I am definitely a fan of the smell of the Lotta Body products, it reminds me of pina colada.

I was pleasantly surprised with the results, I wasn't expecting much from this shampoo, but it did a great job at cleaning my hair whilst leaving it feeling super soft and moisturised. This shampoo did not strip my hair at all, I really liked the thick consistency, it lathers up really well.

The Mane Choice Easy On The Curls Detangling Hydration Conditioner

I have used this conditioner before, if I am honest I do not remember if I liked it or not. After trying this conditioner out again I have to say that it isn’t terrible but it isn’t amazing either, I think it does the job well.

Hydrates & moisturises the hair, removing knots and tangles, which helps to cut wash day in half.

I was sceptical  because it smells like blueberries and for some reason blueberries just don’t agree with my scalp. However after I used it there was no irritation, so it's all good. I liked the smell, and how smooth and light it was. I did feel like it felt better when it was in my hair compared to when I rinsed it out.

I would agree and say it is a good conditioner to detangle with, it has a nice smooth slip to it.

Style & Fluff

I have never used any of the Jane Carter Solution products before, so this was exciting.

Jane Carter Solution Untangle Me Weightless Leave-In

Firstly the smell is bomb, it isn't overpowering but it is really nice. I have warmed to lighter products more recently so myself and my hair really appreciated this leave in. It had my curls looking super defined and shiny. It was easy to apply to my hair, I just raked it through my hair.

This leave in is perfect for wash and go's and quick and easy styles. With ingredients like Mango Butter, Slippery Elm and Marshmallow Root you know your hair is in good hands.

Claims to de-frizz and create light springy curls. That is exactly what it does, this leave in left me with really cute light curls. I can appreciate a product that does what it says it does.

I applied this to my damp hair, detangled with my Tangle Teezer and begun to flat twist my hair. I always work in sections of 3/4, flat twisting the back of my hair down and the the front forwards. This just helps to direct my hair the way I want it to fall.

Jane Carter Solution Coiling All Curls Elongating Gel

I always finish with an oil and to help reduce any potential flaking or harsh cast I used an oil on top of the gel. I don't think this step was necessary for reducing a harsh cast because there was no cast at all. I was left with really soft, defined curls. I was surprised my curls could hold so well without the hard crunchy feeling gel normally leaves on the hair.

A styling gel containing Nettle, Aloe Vera & Coconut Oil. This gel works to reduce shrinkage, whilst creating great definition.
I only used a small amount in each section of my hair before I started to twist my hair. It was only three steps used to create this twist out; Leave-In, Gel & Oil

I left my hair to air dry over night, then rubbed some oil into my fingers before taking my twists out. This is supposed to reduce frizz and it adds a nice shine to the hair. I could of go to take my twists out with the oil as I didn't think there would of been much frizz, the hold and definition was great.

Pre-Fluff / This was straight after I had taken out my flat twists.

Fluff my roots to create volume and to help stretch my hair, giving more of a fuller look. I separate a few of the curls, I like the mixture of looser and more defined curls.

After fluffing and styling my hair this is the look I got.

I slick my edges back using my Denman Brush & Curls blueberry Bliss Control Paste

I am really pleased with the results, not only did I get a lot of compliments on my hair, but I was genuinely happy with the way my hair came out. There was no flaking or anything, I liked how soft my hair felt, you wouldn’t of known I had used a gel in my hair because of the softness of my hair. I will definitely be using this again!
